IMG_8349Hi, I’m Cathy. I like coffee, being outdoors, foraging, growing vegetables and drawing. I also like words, very much – writing them, editing them and admiring their power. I’m a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), and you can see my profile and testimonials here.

What can I do for you?

I can help you with:

  • Copy editing
  • Developmental editing
  • Proofreading
  • Copywriting
  • Ghost writing

Experience

My background is in newspaper and magazine sub-editing, primarily the Guardian, The Sunday Times, Which? and The Grocer. I’ve also worked as an in-house copywriter for Hastings Direct, an insurance firm, and for a local council, where my roles included public relations, communications and tourism marketing.

Further back in history, I worked as a TEFL teacher for five years. Initially I worked abroad, starting with two years in Hiroshima, Japan. Later, I worked for Westminster Adult Education Service, delivering courses at sites across London, both to hotel staff and to refugees and asylum seekers in community centres.

Interests

My personal interests are in food production, foraging, wild food, fermenting, preserving, health, adapting to climate change, resilience, and the evolution of language – however I am always happy to be inspired and educated by a new subject. That is one of my favourite things about this job.

Neurodiversity

I have worked well with several neurodiverse authors, and take different communication styles in my stride. So if you are looking for a dyslexia, autism or ADHD/ADD-friendly editor, please feel free to get in touch.
